Chang Chun Kiat was born in Butterworth, Penang and completed his first degree in Bachelor of Engineering with Honors (Civil Engineering) in 2002 from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He later pursued his postgraduate studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia and received his MSc degree in River and Urban Drainage Management in 2006. Chang Chun Kiat works as a Research Officer at River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) since June 2002 and currently he is working as Science Officer. Recently, he assumed the position of the Assistant Secretary for the IAHR Malaysia Chapter.

His main research interests are sediment transport, river modelling (HEC-6, HEC-RAS, Fluvial-12, InfoWorls RS),  and application of Bio-Ecological Drainage System (BIOECODS). He obtained a short term grant from USM since 2006, and actively involved in research grants such as LRGS, TGRS, RU Grants as co-researcher. He has experience in research and consultancy projects such as drainage improvement and flood mitigation projects, sediment transport modeling study, as well as application of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and Bio-Ecological Drainage System (BIOECODS). Ir. Dr. Chang is also a member of Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) since 2008 and corporate member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM). Besides, he is one of the contributors for MSMA 2nd edition and also river sand mining management guideline for Malaysia.
