Intoduction
The
present guideline, “Manual Saliran Mesra Alam” (MSMA) or Urban
Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia, which was published
by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) in December
2011 and gazetted by the Federal Government will be discussed in
this workshop. The Manual has been simplified and updated to
serve as a source of information and to provide guidance
pertaining to the latest stormwater best management practices (BMPs).
In
this workshop, Lesson 1 modules will addresses design acceptance
criteria for all the prescribed stormwater management
facilities. The design criteria specified for quantity control
covers protection levels to be provided to various urban
land-uses and the limits allowable in stormwater flows, also
design criteria for quality control which specifies temporary
facilities needed for control of pollutants (especially
sediment) during construction and permanent facilities for
control after construction.
Design Average Recurrence Intervals (ARIs) for
both quantity control and conveyance system are mainly the key
that sets requirement and direction to enable users to start and
finish the facility design process of a stormwater facility
project. Adequacy and significance of the rainfall design is a
necessary pre-requisite for preparing satisfactory urban
drainage and stormwater management projects. The estimation
involves frequency, duration and intensity analyses of rainfall
data. In this workshop, 2 hands on sessions will be focused on
the methods and procedures required for runoff estimation, i.e.
Rational Hydrograph Method and Time Area Hydrograph Method.
Through hands-on exploration, participants will discover
methods and procedures required for runoff estimation for peak
discharge.
