FTUB VISIT TO USM

In the increasingly high on the declaration of International cooperation on the recent years, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) on Monday (23/3) paid a visit to the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to sign the MoU (memorandum of understanding) which includes in the High Education Tri Dharma. Held in the Bilik Persidangan Bangunan Canselori USM, UB group led by the Rector, Prof. Dr Ir. Mohammad Bisri, MS accompanied by the Dean of FTUB Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT, Vice Dean for Academic Affair Dr. Ir. Surjono, MTP., and Ir. Moch. Sholichin, MT., Ph.D as the Head of the Department of Water Engineering was well received by Naib Canselor USM Profesor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman, REDAC Director Prof. Dr. Nor Azazi Zakaria, and all the officials of REDAC Study Center.

In his speech, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman hoped that this cooperation opens greater opportunities between USM and UB, especially Faculty of Engineering to be able to support each other and interact in the field of education and research. “The signatory of the MoU today, is expected to provide ideas and innovation between the two institutions, which followed directly in the field of joint research. Hopefully the study can be useful and used by the world, as said in the vision and mission that has been declared by USM,” said Naib Canselor USM.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Ir. Mohammad Bisri, MS stated that the scope of cooperation USM and UB can be developed more widely. “Working Visit outlined in the MOU none other than to improve the quality of learning process, especially the Master Degree of Water Resources Engineering FTUB to USM especially at the Study Center Redac (River Engineering & Urban Drainage Research Center). Starting from the Department of Water Resources Engineering, hopefully USM-UB relationship can be closer with the other forms of cooperation with cross-department in FTUB or cross-faculty in UB.” Rector said.

In this visit, there were some things that can be followed, the Development of Human Resources for the Doctoral Program at USM, Joint Research, Student Exchanges, Lecture Exchanges, Double Degree Program (S1 / S2), Joint Supervision, Joint International Seminar, and Visiting Professor. After discussions between leaders, the event continued with MoU signing, souvenirs exchange, and ended with a press conference covered by several media in Malaysia.

Early Cooperation

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a one of the best three campuses in Malaysia, the best in the field of river management, and the only university in Malaysia which is included in the program APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence). Study Center REDAC USM is the spearhead in the flood mitigation programs and Environmental issues in Malaysia. In Indonesia, the Department of Water Resources Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering UB has quite a lot of similarities in the courses subject, management and development of water resources. 

As an effort to support the Faculty of Engineering to established National Competitiveness towards Asia competitiveness as envisioned in the Strategic and Operational Plan of FTUB, The head of the Department of Water Resources Engineering Ir. Moch. Sholichin, MT., Ph.D see the potential for inter-institutional cooperation that can be started from the level of the Department and may develop at the level of the Faculty and the University.
