HR WALLINGFORD TO COLLABORATE WITH REDAC IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

HR Wallingford and REDAC signing MoU

HR Wallingford and Universiti Sains Malaysia’s River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) are cooperating to develop improved water management strategies for South East Asia.

HR Wallingford and REDAC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Kelantan, Malaysia, which will see them work together transfer of knowledge and share expertise and technology in the areas of river engineering and sustainable drainage management.

As part of this collaboration they plan to develop solutions for challenging river, drainage and flood problems in the region, including the development of software and real-time flood forecasting and warning systems.

HR Wallingford Business Manager, Geoff Wilson, said: “We share many areas of mutual interest with REDAC, and this collaboration will enable us to explore opportunities for technology transfer and strengthen the capabilities of our two institutes in South East Asia. HR Wallingford has internationally recognised expertise in the fields of water and flood risk management, and we look forward to exploring additional ways we can deliver our world-class solutions and state-of-the-art technology to clients in the region.”

USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman said: “As a newly recognised Higher Institution Centre of Excellence, REDAC needs to strengthen its role and expand its scope of expertise for the benefit of the local community more holistically.

“The collaboration with HR Wallingford Ltd is indeed timely and an appropriate step in finding the most effective solutions to deal with natural disasters such as floods, besides being a stepping stone for the centre to expand its research and consultancy services in its niche areas at the regional level.”

REDAC staff will be visiting HR Wallingford facilities in Oxfordshire, UK in April.
