GREEN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT ðŸŒ¿ 

The purpose of a green office environment is to create a clean, healthy, and eco-friendly workplace. It helps to:

  • Improve air quality through indoor plants.
  • Make the office more comfortable and relaxing.
  • Promote care for nature and sustainability.
  • Reduce waste and support a greener lifestyle.
  • Encourage staff to appreciate and protect the environment.

The initiative focuses on enhancing the greenery within and around the REDAC office environment, creating a refreshing and nature-inspired workplace atmosphere that supports both productivity and sustainability.

As part of this effort, TROPICAL PROJECT @ REDAC was introduced as a long-term green initiative that encourages staff involvement in planting and caring for fruit trees around the REDAC premises, symbolising the spirit of sustainability and teamwork. Initiated in December 2020, the Tropical Project @ REDAC stands as a remarkable green initiative led by the staff of the River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). What began as a simple effort to plant fruit trees around the REDAC Office and the Integrated Research Space at the REDAC Hydraulic Laboratory has now grown into a thriving green space within the USM Engineering Campus.

The project not only promotes environmental awareness and sustainability but also strengthens the bond between staff and nature. Today, years after its inception, the effort has borne sweet results as REDAC staff now enjoy the fruits harvested from the trees they planted, including rambutan, mango and starfruit.

The initiative continues to serve as a symbol of REDAC’s commitment to eco-conscious living and community spirit, proving that small green actions can yield lasting and meaningful impact.

                                                           

The current view outside REDAC showcases a lush tropical landscape, where fruit trees and greenery create a calm and refreshing atmosphere.  In addition, several areas inside and around the office have been beautified with potted and flowering plants, bringing nature closer to the workplace.
